14K Yellow Gold Lorgnette
An alternative to wearing spectacles, the lornette was considered a more fashionable vision aid, particularly with women in the 19th century. Not only did the lornette elevate the practicality of vision, but they evolved into elegant and jewlery-like accessories. They were often ornate and made of high-quality metals.
This lovely example is 14K yellow gold and features a beautifully detailed pierced handle that measures 3 3/8 inches. When not in use the lenses cleverly fold together for slipping into a case, or for wear on a chain pendant-style as was often the case for women.
Antique and vintage lornettes are intriguing collectibles for their historical and fashion significance.
