Carnelian Intaglio Ring

This handsome mid-century intaglio ring was produced by Larter & Sons, a New Jersey jeweler, and bears the maker’s mark. Initially, Larter & Sons was particularly well-known for its men’s jewelry collections. They took great pride in designing jewelry pieces such as this ring, inspired by the masters of the golden eras of art.

Sleek and smooth, the ring is crafted in 14K yellow gold, which always complements the warm, rich color of carnelian so nicely. Skilled artistry was employed to finely carve the crisp image of a classical Roman soldier into the oval stone. Currently,y this ring is a size 6 1/2 and can be resized.

Intaglios date back thousands of years. They may have been worn to signify status or loyalty, or used as a seal in wax to validate important documents, and have evolved into contemporary pieces. They are avidly collected, have timeless appeal, and portray wonderful miniature works of art.

Circa 1950-60
