Equestrian Themed Bronze and Glass Inkwell

This wonderful bronze inkwell dates to the late 1880s and exhibits characteristics of the Aesthetic Movement. As an earthy medium, bronze satisfied a desire for the movement’s renewed interest is artistry, craftmanship, and the natural world. The expert craftmanship of this decorative inkwell depicts a rider exercising his hunter jumper horse on a base embellished with stylized elements of grass, florals, and foliates. The swirl patterned glass ink bottle is situated in foliate corner scrolls and has a bronze cover embellished with conforming embossed floral elements. Attesting to the attractive artistic qualities of bronze, the piece has developed a gentle patina. This delightful period inkwell is in excellent condition and continues to serve attractively for its intended practical purposes as well as historical objet d’art.
