French Art Nouveau Carriage Clock
This wonderful carriage clock was produced during the flourishing Art Nouveau period, exhibiting a style atypical of most carriage clocks. The gilt cast-metal case takes on a softened and flowing form embellished with irises and foliage, including the stylized splayed base and handle. Beveled glass panels comprise all four sides and an oval panel atop.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day mechanical movement with a jeweled balance wheel escapement. The time displays on a white porcelain dial with Roman numerals and gilt serpentine hands, while a pleasing gong strike marks the hour and half-hour. The dial mask is also signed by jewelers Goldsmiths & Silversmiths Co. Ltd. of London.
This unique carriage clock with its lovely organic form bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
