French Clock Garniture in Verde Marble
This French clock garniture is a wonderful combination of timekeeping, decorative accent, and sculpture. The clock resides in a case of Italian verde marble ornamented with gilt ormolu mouldings and raised on a plinth base supported on gilt feet. Flanking the clock are three-light candelabra of conforming shape and veined marble fashioned with two bronze scrolling arms, candle cups accented by gilt bobeche, and gilt finials at the center. The clock is surmounted by a bronze sculpture of a sweet little cherub depicted resting on a bank. His gilt finished bow and quiver are set aside while he takes refreshment from a shell.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day mechanical movement that marks the hour and half-hour with a bell strike. An engraved silvered dial appointed with Roman Numerals and blued steel hands displays the time, and rests behind a glass hinged door with gilt bezel. The timepiece bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
This clock garniture is a marvelous fusion of art and function.
