French Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock With Sèvres-Style Porcelain Panels

An exuberant celebration of love, myth, and 19th-century French decorative artistry, this gilt bronze mantel clock is as sculptural as it is functional. The richly modeled case is crowned by a lively figural group of Venus and Cupid, surrounded by playful putti, their forms animated with garlands, grapes, and flowers, symbols of love, abundance, and classical harmony. The gilding is warm and luminous, catching light across finely chased details and lending the clock a distinctly opulent presence.

At the center, a vivid Sèvres-style porcelain panel forms the dial, its rose-toned ground adorned with delicately painted cherubs and floral motifs. White cartouches bearing Roman numerals encircle the scene, creating a striking contrast against the pink enamel and echoing the elegance of true Sèvres porcelain popular in the late 19th century. Additional painted panels appear on the sides and base, continuing the mythological narrative and reinforcing the clock’s richly decorative character from every angle. Housed within is an eight-day, two-train French movement, striking the bell on both the hour and half hour.

Restored and offered with a one-year warranty, the clock combines decorative 19th-century splendor with reliable performance.
