French Singing Bird Automaton
This enchanting French automaton dates to the turn of the 20th century and features a mechanically activated singing bird. With the flick of a switch the colorful bird sings on its perch, head turning side to side and tail flicking. The bird resides within a lovely gilded cage embellished with florals, foliate trims, and raised on turned feet.
A key-wind and spring-driven clockwork mechanism located in the base brings the bird to life. These incredible mechanics feature a series of cams and levers to control the movements, combined with a system of bellows to push air through slide whistles and create the realistic sounds.
Singing birds remain among one of the most coveted and complex forms of automata. This wonderful automaton has been fully restored, including hand feathering, and carries a one-year warranty. A delightful gem of antique automata, singing birds never fail to captivate.
