Swiss Gilt Desk Clock with Cherub Scene by Marc-Ange Plojoux, Circa 1880
A fusion of fine horology and painted artistry, this Swiss gilt brass desk clock is a rare and poetic creation of the late 1800s. Crafted by Marc-Ange Plojoux of Geneva, the oval-form clock rests gracefully on delicate scrolled legs.
The dial is a visual delight, painted in soft plum and violet tones. At the center, a serene scene of three reclining cherubs beneath a tree creates a beautiful Classical landscape. Framed by bold Arabic numerals against white, the clock blends clarity and elegance in a uniquely distinctive presentation. Within, an 8-day movement with a balance wheel escapement, powers the timekeeping.
Marc-Ange Plojoux was an accomplished Geneva horologist with records active from the 1870s through the 1920s. The Plojoux firm was known for high-precision watches, jewelry, and small clocks, often featuring enamel or very intricate artwork like this. Few examples of this type were made, and their exceptional artistry has made them particularly sought after by collectors.
Its beauty, rarity, and superb preservation make this clock a miniature treasure of Swiss decorative arts and horology.
This lovely clock carries a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
