American Silver Plate Nut Bowl

Dining and serveware were very important to the well-established Victorian home, and it was meant to be elaborate and ornate. This silver-plated nut bowl dates to the late 1880’s and is a delightful example of Victorian style. A winged cherub with a posy in his outstretched hand sits atop a high-looping handle of an oval bowl. The bowl with overhanging rim is trimmed with delicately engraved florals and raised on a circular pedestal supported by four decorative legs. The legs are ornamented with architectural and floral design. This charming piece was crafted by Rogers Smith & Co. of New Haven, Connecticut, and bears their hallmark.
