The Chinese began using glazed roof tiles nearly one thousand years ago. Tiles became especially popular in the Ming and Qing dynasties for top-tier buildings including palace halls and ceremonial temples.

This figural polychrome roof tile features a woman riding a deer while carrying a large flower.
