Dutch Frisian Staart (Tail) Wall Clock

Friesland, a province in the Netherlands, is where the Frisian Staart clock was produced. Staart is the Dutch word for tail and refers to the long pendulum on these clocks.

This Staart clock has an arch top tiger stripe oak case. A painted village scene and gilt figural characters surround the dial. The dial has Roman numerals and decorative brass hands. As with most Staart clocks, three ornaments sit atop the case including a figural Atlas carrying a globe. Two repousse finials flank the Atlas figure. Finally, the long ornate pendulum (tail) extends nearly the full length of the case.

The clock has a thirty hour, single weight birdcage movement with bell strike. It also has an alarm feature. The clock comes with a one year warranty.

56″ high x 14″ wide x 8″ deep

Circa 1785
