German Symphonion 25 1/4″ Double Comb Upright Disc Music Box

The term ” home entertainment center” is more apropos of furnishings in the 20th and 21st centuries. But if you owned this spectacular German Symphonion disc music box in the late 19th century, you had a top of the line automated music machine.

Disc music box technology only existed in the 1890s through the 1910s. As such, disc music boxes represent somewhat of a rarity in automated home music compared to the earlier and better known Swiss cylinder music boxes. And later, the phonograph became the most widespread form of home music for decades to come.

This upright music box is housed in a beautifully carved walnut case with turned columns and a gallery on top. Additionally, a disc storage compartment is below the music box itself.

The music box plays 25 1/4″ discs, one of the largest sizes made. The larger the disc size, the longer each disc plays. The all-mechanical movement features a large, heavy duty spring that provides extended playtime. The music box also has a double comb totaling 192 notes thus maximizing the richness of sound for each disc. Six discs are included with the purchase of this timeless example of automated music history.

The music box is fully restored and comes with a one year warranty.
