French Rare Art Nouveau Grande Sonnerie Repeating Carriage Clock

This rare French carriage clock beautifully displays the soft lines and flowing forms of the Art Nouveau period. The free-form gilt brass case features bowed and hand beveled glass panels on each side. The time displays on a hand-painted porcelain dial with an intricate etched and gilt brass dial mask and pieced filigree hands.

Residing within the impressive clock case is an equally remarkable 8-day repeat-at-will Grande Sonnerie movement. This complex striking system allows you to know the time within 15 minutes every time the clock strikes by playing the number of the hour on one gong followed by the number of the quarter-hour on a second separately tuned gong. The complexity of this striking system made movements this elaborate exorbitantly cost-prohibitive for most clockmakers to produce. Thus, making these clocks noteworthy finds today.

This clock is signed H & H and bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
