English Large Victorian 7 Light Candelabra by Elkington, Mason & Co.
This exceptionally large candelabra exudes the lavish and ornate decorative style of many a Victorian home. It was expertly crafted by Elkington, Mason & Co. of Birmingham, England. Known for their large and elaborate metalworks, Elkington, Mason & Co. received many royal commissions and were regarded as the English pioneers of silver electroplating. This wonderful example bears their masterful electroplated silver finish.
Fulfilling the Victorian decorative aesthetic for dramatic and opulent style, the candelabra stands just over 29 inches in height and depicts an artful mix of natural and fantastical elements. Scrolling arms of organic foliate form with leaf and small sphere embellishments support the seven foliate engraved candle cups. The center column is deeply reeded and leads to the tripod base comprised of dragons, fan shells and ivy leaves, and is raised on claw feet supported on a flat three-sided base.
An exemplary piece of ornate, cultured Victorian decor.
