Swiss Interchangeable 19″ Cylinder Music Box
Marvelous handcrafted machines, the 19th-century Swiss cylinder music boxes are infinitely intriguing and entertaining. This fine example dates to 1880 and is presented in an expertly crafted case made of burl amboyna accented by kingwood banding and boxwood stringing. The back is grain-painted, and the lid is beautifully crafted with book-matched burl amboyna.
This enchanting music box features six interchangeable cylinders, each capable of playing six tunes. A total of 36 tunes offers a rich and varied repertoire of melodies to suit any mood or occasion. The double comb accommodates a broad range of notes, while the twin spring barrels allow for extended play. Due to the intensive and cost-prohibitive endeavor of producing a single cylinder, interchangeability in a music box was a luxury, and production was limited. When not in play, the cylinders are stored in 2 mahogany boxes. These marvels of musical and mechanical achievement are amongst the rarest and most desirable music boxes surviving today.
With its excellent craftsmanship and enduring allure, this interchangeable cylinder music box is sure to captivate hearts and minds for generations to come. Finally, it bears a complete restoration and a one-year warranty.
