French Unusual Carriage Clock
This captivating late 1890s French carriage clock is a blend of distinguished design and superb craftmanship. Presented in a cast brass case with sophisticated architectural embellishments of turned and fluted three-quarter columns at all four corners and unusual baluster gallery trim all around including the handle. Raised on turned bun feet and ornamented with turned finials atop.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day movement equipped with a jeweled balance wheel escapement. A pleasing gong strike marks the hour and half-hour, while a press of the button atop activates the repeat-at-will function. The time displays on an elegant hand-painted porcelain dial with black Arabic hour numerals, red Arabic quarter-hour minute numerals, pretty floral garland, and Breguet-style hands. Lending an air of further refinement, the dial is centered within mask of finely engine-turned engraving that emanates an alluring presentation.
The movement of the clock is signed H & H for Harris & Harrington of New York, a specialty importer and supplier of luxury timepieces. This delightful carriage clock bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
