American Regina Corona 15.5″ Disc Automatic Changer Music Box

This American Regina Corona Style 35 automatic changer disc music box is a wonderful example of very early 1900s musical entertainment and craftsmanship. It features a sophisticated double-comb 156-note movement that allows the music box to automatically play through 12 discs in succession. A wind of the crank and a flip of a switch set the machine in motion. It raises a disc from the rack, positions it to the musical combs for play, then lowers the played disc and repeats the process to provide a continuous and enchanting listening experience.

The mechanics are housed in an expertly crafted bow-front case of Honduran mahogany. The case is appointed with a beautifully carved crest, handsome barley-twist columns, and is raised on cabriole legs. A stunning and sophisticated piece of furniture as well as a functional musical instrument.

The Regina Music Box Company of Rahway, New Jersey, held international prestige from the 1880s to the advent of the phonograph. The company flourished, achieving tremendous popularity and producing some of the era’s most beautifully crafted and finest-sounding machines. Automatic changers were among Regina’s most impressive offerings. However, due to their very high cost, only a limited market could afford them. Far fewer automatic disc changers were produced than other models, making this machine a remarkable acquisition.
