French Louis XV Style Gilt Brass Mantel Clock

Gracefully formed with sweeping Rococo curves, this French mantel clock showcases a handsome interpretation of the Louis XV style. The richly cast gilt brass case is elevated on an openwork pedestal with scrolling feet and flowing asymmetrical ornament, while pierced blue side panels provide an attractive contrast to the warm gilded finish. Crowning the case is a finely cast cupid, lending a playful and distinctly French character to the design.

The time displays on a convex white porcelain dial with Arabic numerals, framed by an elegantly molded bezel. Within, an eight-day movement strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. The combination of sculptural form, intricate casting, and reliable mechanical movement makes this an eye-catching addition to any mantel, desk, or display.

Circa 1885
