American Dayton Candy Computing Scale
A brilliant blue finish, crisp red pinstriping, and a gleaming brass pan make this American candy scale a colorful reminder of the traditional confectionery counter. Made by the Dayton Scale Co. of Ohio and dating to approximately 1915, the three-pound scale combines practical ingenuity with decorative appeal.
The price-calculating dial features an intricate arrangement of curved numerical rows, allowing the seller to determine the cost of a purchase according to its weight and price per pound. A separate weight display on the reverse is surrounded by a nickel-plated cast bezel embellished with scrolling ornament. Below the main dial, a circular viewing window reveals part of the mechanism, offering another intriguing detail for the mechanically minded collector.
Red pinstriping traces the shaped housing and base, complemented by bold gold-and-red Dayton lettering and gold medal artwork. Equally charming in a kitchen, candy shop, or mercantile antique collection, this scale brings color and character to its surroundings.
