14K Yellow Gold Victorian Watch Chain and Carnelian Fob
This handsome Victorian pocket watch chain was crafted of 14K yellow gold in a mesh ribbon style. As one of the earliest accessories for the all-important pocket watch, many were in fact crafted from ribbon. This more elaborate gold example was considerably more sophisticated and fashion-oriented, favored by the well-to-do. With the pocket watch tucked safely into one’s pocket of choice, the chain and fob are draped for display. The oval fob, in this case, is beautifully open-worked with a scroll and leaf design, beaded trim, and a rich red carnelian at its center. In addition to a decorative accent, the fob was also functional for easy access to the watch.
