Known as The Mariner, this timepiece is an iconic clock produced by the Chelsea Clock Company of Chelsea, Massachusetts. A limited edition model, this clock was produced for A.G.A. Correa & Son of Maine, jewelers who specialize in nautical themed offerings. Expertly handcrafted and presented in brass and a patinated bronze finish situated on a mahogany base and back. The wheel ring is also mahogany and is marked on the reverse Limited Edition No. 076.
Keeping the time within is a jeweled 8-day mechanical movement with ship’s bell striking on a tuned gong that produces a nice rich tone. The time displays on a silvered dial with engraved Arabic numerals and Breguet style hands. Chelsea Clock is very well known for the superior manufacture of timepieces, marine clocks in particular. This nautically-inspired masterpiece bears a full restoration and a one year warranty.

Ships Bell Striking: The code is based on a crew’s typical workday routine while a vessel is underway. A ship at sea requires constant attention throughout the day’s 24 hours. Therefore, the day is divided into six four-hour periods that are each called a “watch.” A single bell denoted the end of the first half-hour, and one bell was added each half-hour. Eight bells, therefore, signaled the end of each four-hour watch. (ChelseaClock)
