Chinese Cast Bronze Censer of Goddess Guanyin’s Bridge
This elaborate Chinese censer, or incense burner, is truly a functional art piece. Three different pieces come together to form a beautiful allegorical sculpture. The 3 piece set, made of copper alloy and cast bronze, depict the Chinese legend of “Goddess Guanyin’s Bridge”. A court official crosses the bridge on horseback, while a sea dragon and messenger lay in wait beneath. The court official can be removed to expose the incense chamber hidden within the horse.
