Diablotine 1/4 Jump Split Seconds Chronograph By Charles Ami Lecoultre

Crafted by famed 19th century Swiss watchmaker Charles Ami Lecoultre. This highly complicated timepiece features the remarkable “diablotine” or 1/4 seconds jump movement, for which Lecoultre is the inventor. This rare and difficult to execute complication refers to the bottom subsidiary dial which jumps forward every quarter of a second when the chronograph, or stopwatch, is in motion. Subsequently, when the chronograph stops, the diablotine halts. This allows the viewer to accurately measure the time to a fraction of a second.

In addition, this remarkable watch possess a split second chronograph. When the chronograph is engaged, a push of a button will cause the seconds hand to split in two. The split gives the user the ability to time two independent events simultaneously within a single watch.

This exquisitely complicated movement resides in an 18kt yellow gold hunter case measuring 55mm across. The dial and movement bear the Ami Lecoultre signature, and the patent date of 1887.

Charles Ami Lecoultre ( 1843-1921) was a watchmaker of high skill and accomplishment. Lecoultre worked alongside the famed Louis Elisée Piguet and Henry Daniel Piguet, specializing in high complication watches. An example of his work resides in the Musée International d’Horlogerie in La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland.

This watch is fully restored with a one year warranty.
