French Art Deco Figural Mantle Clock
This fabulous Art Deco mantle clock exhibits an ocean-themed sculpture by Jacques Limousin. Limousin was known for his love of the seashore; perhaps it was an inspiration for this work. He has sculpted an image exemplifying the less inhibited and unrestricted female of the era. She appears not to have a care in the world, lounging in the water and rising in form with a wave. Nearby a gull riding a smaller wave peers into the water to nab a fish. The piece is expertly sculpted in metal with a deep patinated finish and wonderful verdigris highlights. Signed Limousin, and raised overall on a black marble base with a center onyx inlay.
A diamond-shaped clock inserted into the wave keeps the time with an 8-day mechanical movement and displays the time on a crisp white dial with stylized Arabic numerals. The clock bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty.
This compelling piece beautifully emanates characteristics of the Art Deco era.
