French Gilt Brass Oval Grand Sonnerie Carriage Clock

This classic French carriage clock has a number of rare characteristics. First, the gilt brass case features an oval design with curved beveled glass.

Next, the unusual porcelain dial, signed Theo B. Starr, has hand painted blue decorative artwork in the center and also in between the Roman numerals. Arabic numeral minute markers sit above the Roman numerals. A smaller alarm dial appears below the timepiece dial and has similar artwork. Fleur de Lis hands provide another rare feature.

The complex Grand Sonnerie movement adds to the rarity of the clock. It has an eight day, jeweled lever escapement that strikes on two tuned gongs. Furthermore, a switch on the bottom of the clock allows for controlling the strike. Settings include hour and quarter hours strike, quarter hours only and finally, a silent setting. There is also a repeat at will strike button on top of the case and an alarm function.  The clock comes with a one year warranty.
