French Industrial Animated Ship Deck Clock
This striking late 1800s French industrial clock takes the form of a ship’s deck. Crafted in patinated and polished bronze, the clock is mounted on a Belgian black marble base. This highly decorative piece captures a lively maritime scene with remarkable detail and mechanical animation.
The upper deck features a sailor standing at the ship’s wheel, rocking gently back and forth as if steering through the sea. In front of him sits a ship’s compass, complete with a functional compass element. On the lower deck, another sailor is depicted handling a landing rope, further enhancing the nautical narrative of the design.
At the center of the structure is a circular dial with Roman numerals, powered by an 8-day pendulum movement. The clock strikes the hour and half-hour on a tuned gong, providing a resonant, traditional chime.
The piece measures approximately 12 inches high, 11.5 inches wide, and 8.5 inches deep, and rests on an elegant marble plinth that complements the bronze superstructure. The clock has been professionally restored and is offered with a one-year warranty.
Combining fine bronze craftsmanship, animated mechanical elements, and a charming maritime theme, this French deck clock is both a functional timepiece and a distinctive decorative object.
