French Napoleon III Style Mantel Clock
This sleek and elegant Napoleonic style mantel clock dates to 1850. A case of exotic rosewood serves as the perfect backdrop for the intricate and elaborate marquetry inlays that comprise scrolling foliates, an urn with mask handles, sphinxes, lions, tiny squirrels, and a butterfly. It is further embellished and accented with fine line inlays and banding overall.
Keeping the time within is an 8-day movement with silk thread suspension, and a clear bell strike marks the hour and half-hour. The time displays on a white porcelain dial within a beaded bezel and is appointed with Roman numerals and Breguet-style hands. Signed on the dial by the retailer/maker at 15 Boulevard Saint-Denis, Paris.
This clock bears a full restoration and a one-year warranty. In addition to its intended purpose, this delightful clock serves as an exquisite decorative piece.
