Rare Angldile Computing Scale with Original Mirror, Circa 1909

A striking example of early 20th-century American commercial design, this rare Angldile computing scale combines practical ingenuity with remarkable visual appeal. Manufactured by the Angldile Scale Company of Elkhart, Indiana, the scale features its original deep-red laquered finish, accented with black panels, gilt striping, and delicate decorative flourishes that elevate it well beyond a simple store fixture.

The large circular dial displays weight and pricing information via an ingenious computing mechanism, while the rear retains its seldom-seen original articulated mirror, allowing both the merchant and the customer to view the reading simultaneously. Equally important is the survival of the original oval milk glass weighing plate, a component that has frequently been lost or replaced over the past century. Together, these original features make this example particularly desirable and increasingly difficult to find.

Combining decorative presence, mechanical interest, and rarity, this Angldile scale is a wonderful survivor from the golden age of American mercantile equipment and a compelling addition to collections of advertising, early industrial antiques, or as a wonderful, eye-catching decorative piece for such places as a kitchen, bar, or office!
