Scottish Marquetry Inlaid Tall Case Clock

This Scottish tall case clock exemplifies the craftsmanship and artistry of the late 1700s. Crafted of rich Honduran mahogany, intricate floral marquetry inlays adorn the case, creating a captivating visual spectacle. The delicate and detailed marquetry work reflects the attention to detail and precision of the artisans of the era. Blooming flowers, birds, medallions, and garlands adorn the case in amazing detail. The case takes on a classic and elegant shape with columns and a graceful swan neck pediment top.

The hand-engraved and silvered brass arch top dial is a work of art in itself. The time displays on Roman numeral hours with an Arabic numeral minute track that ensures clear and easy timekeeping. A large seconds dial below the 12 o’clock position adds further functionality, and a calendar window positioned above the 6 o’clock position provides a useful date reference. Notably, the dial bears the signature of the clockmaker, Alex Dickie of Edinburgh, on the dial arch, adding a historical connection to the piece. An 8-day weight-driven movement powers this clock, highlighting its precision and longevity.

With its exquisite marquetry inlays, graceful proportions, and hand-engraved dial, this beautifully made Scottish tall case clock is a functional piece of art and history, making it a valuable and cherished addition to any collection or home.
