Swiss Nicole Frères Early Key Wind 12″ Fat Cylinder Music Box

Nicole Frères of Geneva Switzerland crafted this early twelve inch cylinder music box. The term “Fat Cylinder” refers to the larger diameter.  The more common smaller diameter cylinder music boxes play a single tune within one revolution. In contrast, this cylinder plays two tunes per revolution and a total of twelve tunes. A key wind movement powers the mechanism.

The walnut case features decorative marquetry inlay on the lid. Additionally, the underside of the lid holds the original tune card. The maker’s name, Nicole Frères, and the retailer, T. Cox . Savory & Co. of London, are also noted on the card.

This restored music box comes with a one year warranty.
