American Art Nouveau Emerald and White Cased-Glass Table Lamp

This striking American Art Nouveau table lamp dates to the early 1900s and features distinguished, rich emerald-green glass with graceful botanical decoration. Both the broad, gently flared shade and matching base are fashioned from white cased glass, with an opaque inner layer that softens and diffuses the light beneath the jewel-toned emerald exterior.

Gold-leaf thistles trail across the glass in delicate, asymmetrical compositions, their slender stems and curling leaves reflecting the Art Nouveau fascination with the natural world’s fluid forms. The decoration is especially prominent on the base, where a fully opened thistle and budding flower create a beautiful contrast against the deep green ground.

Ornate brass fittings connect the shade and base, while the finely cast footed mount is enriched with scrolling foliage and stylized dolphin feet. The sculptural metalwork gives the lamp an elaborate architectural foundation while complementing the warmth of the applied gold decoration. With its commanding scale, saturated color, and unusual combination of glasswork and classical ornament, this lamp makes a dramatic example of early 20th-century decorative lighting.
