Art Nouveau Marble Desk Clock by Zenith for Shreve & Co.

This wonderful Art Nouveau desk clock was produced by the distinguished Swiss watchmaker Zenith for the luxury American retailer Shreve & Co. A richly veined green marble case of smooth form and polished surface exudes a sense of quiet luxury and reflects the organic characteristics of the period.

Keeping the time within is an 8-day 7-jewel manual wind movement activated by an unusual and artfully fashioned winding knob on the reverse. The clock face is elegantly framed by a gilt bezel and displays the time on a silvered dial with stylized Art Nouveau numerals and blued steel spade and whip hands. The contrast between the solid, weighty marble and the decorative elements creates a harmonious balance, making the clock not only a functional timepiece but also a sculptural object. It embodies the Art Nouveau ideal of uniting art and utility, transforming an everyday object into something refined and expressive.
