Edison Triumph Cylinder Phonograph, Circa 1905
Larger, more powerful, and designed for enhanced performance, the Edison Triumph cylinder phonograph represented one of Thomas Edison’s premier home phonographs of the early 20th century. This handsome example is housed in a richly grained oak case and paired with an impressive 14-inch black and brass trumpet horn, creating the dramatic silhouette so closely associated with the golden age of acoustic sound reproduction.
Designed to play 2-minute wax cylinders, this Triumph model offered greater volume and longer play time over Edison’s smaller phonographs, making it especially desirable for both home entertainment and public demonstration. Its robust mechanism and commanding sound allowed music and spoken recordings to fill a room with surprising richness and clarity for the period.
The warm oak cabinet retains the classic Edison aesthetic, beautifully contrasted by the black japanned metalwork and glowing brass horn. Both a fascinating technological achievement and an iconic decorative object, this phonograph captures the excitement of an era when recorded sound was still a remarkable modern wonder.
