French Regency Style Gilt Bronze Mantel Clock
Inspired by the elegant forms of the French Regency period, this refined mantel clock combines classical architecture with richly cast gilt bronze ornament. A graceful putto rests atop the case, while fluted columns frame the beveled glass façade, allowing a view of the decorative pendulum within. The white Carrara marble base provides a crisp contrast to the warm gilded bronze, accented with finely chased mounts and delicate scrolling ornament. A radiant sunburst mask beneath the dial completes the composition, lending both balance and visual richness.
The convex white porcelain dial, signed Paris, features Arabic numerals and finely pierced gilt hands. Behind it is an eight-day movement that strikes the hours and half-hours on a bell. Beautifully proportioned and finely detailed, this clock is an elegant example of late 19th-century French decorative arts, equally suited to a mantel, console, or library.
