This extraordinary Black Forest mantel cuckoo clock by Furderer Jaegler & Cie. is a beautiful expression of late nineteenth-century Black Forest carving. Transforming the traditional cuckoo clock into a richly sculptural celebration of rural life, the clock is hand-carved from walnut. The rustic farmhouse rises from a mountainous landscape crowded with the tools and rewards of the harvest. Baskets overflowing with wheat sheaves, beehives, rakes, scythes, and other farm implements are meticulously rendered. Perched atop the roof, a proud rooster and hen flank the small cuckoo door. At the hour, the carved bird emerges to announce the time before retreating once again into the farmhouse. Every surface is animated with deeply carved texture, creating a sculptural composition that rewards close inspection from every angle.

At its heart is a robust eight-day brass movement with a wooden dial fitted with Roman numerals and finely carved bone hands, reflecting the exceptional craftsmanship for which the Black Forest workshops were renowned.
