Japanese Art Nouveau Card Case in Translucent Tortoise Shell

This exquisite Japanese card case, dating to the early 1900s, showcases exceptional craftsmanship in its translucent tortoise shell body. The Art Nouveau design is meticulously inlaid with gold and silver, creating a delicate and elegant depiction of a butterfly fluttering among reeds and flowers. The intricate inlay work is further enhanced by very small pops of mother of pearl within one of the butterfly’s wings, adding a subtle iridescence to the piece. This card case is a wonderful testament to the refined artistry and attention to detail of early 20th-century Japanese craftsmanship.
