J. E. Caldwell Stainless Steel 3-Register Chronograph Wristwatch
This rare, oversized Model O Swiss chronograph wristwatch was produced by esteemed J. E. Caldwell of Philadelphia and is a remarkable timepiece of function and design. The watch measures 38mm with a Valjoux 71 three-register manual chronograph movement, which achieved the milestone of their largest caliber at the time.
Embodying the expert craftsmanship of mid-century watchmaking, the 17-jewel movement is housed in a stainless steel case to withstand more rigorous use and environments. The time displays on a patinated silvered dial with luminous Arabic hour numerals, blued steel luminous spade and whip hands, and a minute hand. Additional chapter rings in red, black, and blue enhance readability. Three subsidiary dials represent running seconds, with hour and minute accumulation.
This chronograph exemplifies precision craftsmanship and horology of the 1940s, and carries a complete restoration and an 18-month warranty.
J. E. Caldwell & Co. was a renowned American retailer of luxury timepieces, fine jewelry, and silver.
